Food Intolerance and Low Carb Diets

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Benji Paras Food intolerance is a pharmacological reaction to the consumption of certain foods. In many cases, food intolerance may appear to bethe side-effect of pharmacological drugs, but in fact, it is generally caused by the consumption of natural foods products, additives, or the combination of both. The majority of food products that commonlycause food intolerance are high-protein. As a low carb dieter, you will have abnormally-high exposure to high-protein food, includingdairy products and meats, which means your chance of experiencing food intolerances(if you have any) will increase. In contrast to food allergies, whichare easily identifiable because they affectan almost instantaneous reaction of hives, shock, and a range of other symptoms, food intolerancesare somewhat harder to identify. Food intolerance generally has milder affects, such as minor headaches, general irritation, upset stomach, restlessness, and a lossof sleep. This makes it much harderto identify and treat. If you are new to your low carb diet, you may have already experienced some of these symptoms, but attributed themto something other than foodintolerance. If you have been exhibiting these symptomsfor less than three days into your low carbdiet, they are more than likely related to withdrawalsfrom caffeine or carbohydrates. They couldalso be related to dehydration. Conversely,if you have been exhibiting them for more thanthree days, they are more than likelythe result of a food intolerance. You should immediately start the processof weeding out foods that could becausing the intolerance. The following is a list of foods you maybe consuming on your low carb dietthat are likely perpetrators:eggs, nuts, milk, fish, shellfish, pork, bacon, chicken, cheese, and tomatoes. You should try to remove one of thesefrom your low carb diet at a time. If you cannotsolve your intolerance problem withina week, it would be wise to get offof your low carb diet and contacta physician to determine the source of your intolerance. Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Lawsuits

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Eric Morris A civil action that is initiated in a court of law to restore a privilege of an individual or procure compensation for an injury is called a lawsuit. A lawsuit is commonly engaged in the resolution of dispute between individuals, business organizations or non-profit entities. A large number of lawsuits are resolved without much difficulty and do not ever go to trial, but they can occasionally be involved in a very complex procedure. This generally applies to centralized systems in which a central court may take recourse to state law, or the other way around. The legal tangle can be compounded when one state makes use of the law of another, and is vague about which court in reality has authority over the defendant. Usually the lawsuit commences when the claimant files an objection with the court. This objection generally mentions that the claimant is looking for compensation from a declared defendant. The summons is then issued by the clerk of the court to the defendant, to inform him that legal action is being taken against him and give him an account of the type of the claims. After the defendant obtains this announcement, he is given a cut-off date to file a reply clearing up his defenses to the plaintiff’s demand. Discovery comprises the initial phases of the lawsuit. This is the structured exchange of declarations and proofs. Discovery is aimed at removing the element of shock, and elucidates the nature of the lawsuit. This also affords the party the opportunity to decide whether they should resolve or withdraw the case without unnecessarily draining the courts resources. Have You Captured Me Today?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Alexandria K. Brown There are many Web sites I visit every day and will probably never return to again. It’s not that I didn’t like the site, or that I wasn’t interested in the topic, services, or products offered. It’s just that I wasn’t ready to take action right now. So I clicked away and will probably forget about them. The danger of this happening at YOUR site is that you just lost a great prospect. After all, I’m pre-qualified. I was already interested in what you had to offer. I likely found your site via a search engine, Web directory, advertisement, article, or another promotion. I clicked through to your site because I wanted to learn more. But studies reveal that I’m most likely NOT going to take action the first time I visit your site. Have you heard the statistic that it takes about *seven* contacts before prospects are ready to buy? (That’s a lot of times!) So how can you get the chance to contact me another *six* times? The answer is to CAPTURE me then and there that is, get my e-mail address. To do this, you’ll have to offer me something valuable in return. If you just tell me to “sign up for our mailing list,” you’re not going to get squat. So what can YOU offer me? Here are some ideas that have been proven to work when done well. Of course, the *content* for all of these should tie-in to your business focus: 1. A free mini-mail course. These are becoming very popular right now. You simply create a few e-mails’ worth of content to spread out over a certain amount of days. You’ll need an e-mail autoresponder to do this, which allows me to sign up for your course automatically. Many sites seem to offer five- or seven-day courses, and many of them are awful. So here’s a chance for YOU to stand out: Make sure yours offers really useful or interesting content that’s more “how to” than salesy. Then in the last e-mail, tell me how your services/ products will further help me — lead me on to the next step. 2. A free e-zine (e-mail newsletter). If you can produce new content on a regular basis, this is your BEST option, because you’re receiving permission to contact me (and market to me) again and again! You’ll always be on my mind. And if you’re a solo professional who is marketing your own services, this gives you *multiple* chances to prove your worth and gain my trust over time. The only drawback to this option is that publishing an e-zine requires a good amount of time and effort on a regular basis, but the rewards will be worth it. 3. A special VIP/promotion list. If I like what I see, and you give me the chance to receive *special offers* that will save me money at your site, I’ll be sure to sign up for your list. For example, one site I love buying from is http://www.BlueFly.com. They offer designer clothes and accessories (e.g. BCBG, Fendi, Prada I’m salivating right now!) at discount prices with exceptional customer service. Throughout their site and when you place an order, there are invitations to sign up for “discounts, exclusive offers, and first looks.” Count me in! 4. A free special report or e-book. Here’s another neat idea give people a special report or short e-book related to your topic of interest. Not sure where to start? Try a top-10 list of tips, a list of relevant resources, or a collection of articles you’ve already written. The more “how-to,” the better give me real, useful information. But of course make sure it implies that YOU and YOUR BUSINESS are the best resource in the end. This is a delicate balance to achieve, but it’s not as hard as you may think. And at the end of your content, tell me how your services/products will further help me. (Again, lead me on to the next step.) 5. Don’t forget to follow up! Once you capture a list of prospects, you’ll need to contact them again. We’ll cover the art of follow up in an upcoming article. Of course, if you’re publishing an e-zine, that’s already set. (Hooray for e-zines!) (c) 2002 Alexandria K. Brown ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alexandria K. Are Healthy Organic School Dinners on the Increase

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Davinos Greeno Jamie Olivers campaign to improve school dinners has galvanized politicians and parents alike. Even the Prime Minister has got involved saying that If changes are made it will only be a matter of months before British health, education and farming could be affected for the better. It could be one of the biggest food revolutions that England has ever seen. What is now needed is real commitment to this change and the funds from central government to back it up. In a response to the plea from Jamie Oliver for a school dinner revolution, the Prime Minister has also said that school kitchens will be rebuilt and equipped so that food dishes can be cooked from scratch, while dinner ladies are given culinary skills to help them create appetizing menus. From autumn 2006, school dinners in England will now exclude crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks and low-quality meat. School children will be served at least two portions of fruit and vegetables with every meal and deep-fried food will be restricted to two portions per week. Meals that are high in salt and fat from the school canteen are also banned. From a parents perspective, many want better school meals for their children and to swap junk food for both organic and local fresh meals but there has been pictures in the national newspapers of some parents taking dinner orders at the school gates and going and buying burgers, chips and other unhealthy meals and then delivering it to their children and others. This is clearly undermining what Jamie Oliver and the Prime Minister is trying to do, at school they have to wear a uniform and conform to certain rules, why cant this include eating green and healthy food? When they get home they can then wear and eat what they want. Its not going to kill them to eat 5 healthy meals per week is it? Wake up!!! This also reminds me of Ian Wrights (famous ex Arsenal football player in the UK) recent TV programme about unhealthy kids, he tried his hardest to engage them in exercise to reduce their obesity levels and when he was struggling he asked their parents to lead by example..many of them refused! Back to healthy meals againthe Soil Association is encouraging the use of organic and local produce in school meals by running a Food for Life workshop at interested schools. It is a one day workshop for key stage two pupils. It is run by the Soil Associations education department. The workshop provides children with an opportunity to consider healthy eating, local and organic food through the theme of choices. Schools also need information on good practice when sourcing healthy food for school meals. Schools can further improve childrens diets and increase their understanding of food by means of farm visits, and classroom activities. Wouldnt it be wonderful if all schools could have gardens so that kids can see that food doesnt come just from packets or appear miraculously in shops? To encourage kids at home to eat healthily why not make soups with organic vegetables, while the children can make their own smoothies in the blender with organic yogurt or milk and fresh or frozen fruit. I bet the kids can taste the difference. All the kids in my family love organic yoghurts, and for snacks they have organic dried fruit. Don’t Take Your Net For Granted

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Trevor Kugler Many anglers tend to not think about their net. Their net is either attached to the back of their fishing vest or it’s just laying somewhere in the bttom of their boat. Now I realize that nets can last for years and sometimes don’t even get used that much, but I’m just reminding you to take a little time to make sure that your nets are in good condition before you next fishing trip. Your net can easily be the difference between landing a big fish and watching that same fish swim away. I used to have a net that hung from the back of my fishing vest and was constantly getting hung up on brush while I walked through the woods along my favorite trout fishing river. The net getting stuck was such a common occurrence that I began to not even give it a second thought. Then one day I went to use it on a nice twenty-inch rainbow, and when I netted the fish the fish went right through a hole that was in my net. I don’t know if you’ve ever had this happen, but I think it’s the definition of a clusterf&%#! Fishing line wrapped around what seems to be everything, screaming, pulling the fish in hand over hand, it’s an absolute mess. After this fiasco had finished, I went over to the shore, took my vest off, and removed the old net. I figured that I’d be better off without it. Then a couple of weeks later I hooked into a very large trout, and at that point realized that I didn’t have a net to help land the fish. Until that point I hadn’t thought about my net since the clusterf&%#. I obviously don’t use my net unless I’m dealing with a big fish. In any case, once I got my large trout close to the shore, I realized how difficult landing the trout was going to be. After getting the trout close to me a couple of times and having it peel off line away from me, I realized that I was in trouble. Then on the third or fourth go around of getting close to me, the trout had obviously had enough, because it shook it’s head twice, buried it’s nose into the rocks, took off like a shot, and broke my line. I realized later that the only way I could have landed that trout on four pound test was if I had a net The bottom line is that you need to check your nets periodically to make sure they’re in working order. And if you have one that annoys you, replace it rather than just chucking it. I just don’t want you to go through the experience of losing a trophy, as I did. It’s no fun at all. How To Start Meeting More Women Tonight!

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Joseph Matthews Has this ever happened to you? You go out with some buddies for a night on the town, hoping tomeet a girl to have some fun with. You head to a bar, get a booth, and order drinks. The place is kickin’, and you and your buddies are having a good time looking at all the pretty girls… except nobody is meeting any them. You want to talk to them, but you feel more comfortable sitting around with your friends talking about how you would like to go home with a girl that night. Instead, you all end up leaving the same way you came in - together. This is a pretty common occurrence among the lovelorn bachelor. This is a symptom of what I like to call the “comfort zone.” Basically, everyone has a comfort zone. This is a state of mindwhere people are surrounded by that which is FAMILIAR. Familiarity breeds complacency, which can keep you from taking the action necessary to achieve your goals, because that action introduces uncertainty into your life - something the comfort zone likes to keep at bay. So when you want to meet a woman, you need to know how to break out of this comfort zone. How do you do this? The answer is self-evident: You must learn to meet women BYYOURSELF! Friends can be a great asset, but most of the time, going out with friends actually HINDERS your ability to meet women. Not just because of the comfort zone factor, but because other guys who don’t know what they’re doing with girls can actually ruin the interactions you have with them - be it by jealousy or ineptitude. So the best way to counter this is to LEAVE YOUR FRIENDS BEHIND. But the prospect of going out by oneself can strike fear into thehearts of men. After all, doesn’t going out by yourself signal to everyone that you’re a loser with no friends? Doesn’t it make you look creepy? The answer to both these questions is: NO!!!!! The simple act of going out on your own can shake your comfortzone, because you have no anchors to keep you there. Often yourfriends will act as an anchor to your comfort zone that keep youfrom approaching women. And it is easier to break out of thiscomfort zone without those anchors present. Plus, you don’t haveto worry about failing with women and being judged by your friends if they’re not around. But the most powerful thing about going out by yourself is that it puts your focus on what you are doing. This means that everyinteraction you have is without distraction, so it is more easilyexamined and the problems you had are more easily identified. This allows you to spot your sticking points more quickly and correct them. Not only that, but being out by yourself gives you the freedom offlexibility when it comes to where you’re going and who you talkto. If you’re bored with a place, you can leave and go to another one. If you want to talk to a girl who your friends might poke fun at you for, you can. Not only this, but you’re free to mess up the interactions you have, because chances are, no one there will ever see you again, so you don’t have to worry about what others think of you. But like all things, knowing what to say will help you to go out by yourself and succeed at increasing your ability to approach. There are many examples of Openers to say in my book The Art ofAttraction, but some guys will need to know how to handle theinevitable question “Where are your friends?” Something I’ve used to great effect is the answer “Oh, they’rearound.” This simple dismissive statement not only answers thequestion, but as far as anyone knows, you’re telling the truth. But if you want to take it a step further, I’ve even used this asan Opener at times I’ve been out by myself. ***The “My Friends Ditched Me” Opener*** This works good whenever you’re out somewhere by yourself. Basically, you approach your target or a group, and say: “Hey guys, you won’t believe this. All week, me and my friendshave been planning on going out and having a good time, becausewe’ve all been busy and we wanted to blow off some steam. So wemade plans to go out tonight, right? Well, one by one they call me up and say stuff like “I’m too tired,” or “My girlfriend wants to watch a movie,” and stuff like that. Some friends huh? Bunch of lame-o’s. But I’m thinking there might be something more to this, because last week two of my friends had a knock-down drag out fight over some girl they both like, so the situation is all weird. Do you guys have any friends who got split up by someone they both liked?” Using this, you set the stage that you’re out by yourself because, well, unlike your friends, YOU’RE not lame! Not only that, you throw in a nice Drama Opener in there to engage the group. And if you’re still too shy to go out by yourself, then try thislittle trick: When you go out with your friends — DITCH THEM. Go off on yourown and leave them behind for a while, then meet up with themlater. This can be quite an effective method if your friends don’t mind you leaving! To your success! Fight Fat with Fiber

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Chris Chenoweth Fiber is one of the most effective natural tools for losing weight. Following a high-fiber eating plan can be a very successful way of avoiding the diet roller coaster for good. You do not have to eliminate any foods from your diet. You simply add foods that are fiber-rich or make substitutions (whole wheat bread instead of white bread). Following a high-fiber diet will force your body to lose weight, make it easy to keep it off, and give you more energy. Cutting back on fat and increasing fiber content decreases the risk for many diseases including heart disease, high cholesterol and some types of cancer. What is the secret of fiber? Fiber acts like a sponge in the bodys digestive tract, absorbing substances containing sugars, fats, carbohydrates, and the calories associated with them. This prevents those calories from staying in your body and adding fat to it. Fiber also adds bulk to foods, causing your body to feel full sooner and longer. This results in eating less throughout the day; eating less results in losing weight. Another plus for eating fiber is the increase in energy you will experience. Like protein, fiber also slows down the digestion process in your body, guaranteeing a perfectly balanced energy level throughout the day. HOW TO INCREASE FIBER *AVOID SUGAR. There is no fiber in sugar or sugar-laden foods. *EAT WHOLE GRAINS. Avoid white bread and white rice as they have had the fiber processed out of them. Use only food made with whole grains such as whole grain breads, cereals, wheat germ, barley and brown rice. Always check food labels. *EAT WHOLE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. Avoid fruit juices (except fresh fruit juices made in a juicer), as they can be high in sugar content. The skins are the richest source of fiber. *EAT BEANS. Most varieties of beans are a rich source of fiber, especially kidney beans and garbanzo beans. *DRINK SMOOTHIES. Throw a bunch of fresh fruit, yogurt, and ground flaxseed in the blender for a tasty, high fiber treat. *REDUCE MEAT AND DAIRY. If you eat too much meat and dairy products you will not get enough fiber in your diet. You either need to reduce the amounts you eat or increase the amount of fiber you eat. *DRINK LOTS OF WATER. You must drink plenty of water throughout the day to help push the fiber through your body. Water also eliminates toxins and speeds up the metabolism. Drink at least 8 glasses a day. BEST FIBER SOURCES *All-Bran cereal and other high fiber cereals *Psyllium husks *Flax meal *Kidney, garbanzo, and navy beans *Apple with skin *Dried figs *Prunes *Barley *Corn *Whole grain spaghetti *Banana *Blueberries *Sweet potato *Broccoli Getting enough fiber in your diet is one of the most important things you can do for your body and your health. Eating fresh fruit, vegetables and grains, along with drinking plenty of water, will ensure that you get enough fiber in your diet. Make sure you reduce your intake of white foods, including sugar, processed foods, and dairy products. People Do Business with People They Like

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Kathy Condon People do business with people they know and like! In my networking classes I have been saying this for six years. Cant say I was the originator of it, yet it appears people are catching on. Finally, people are referring to this statement in casual conversation when they are talking about marketing. BAN COLD CALLS Just this morning the news reported there have been 400,000 complaints registered by people who had received unsolicited calls even though they had registered on the No Call List. When checking, I couldnt discover how many people have signed up on the No Call List, yet the number is in the millions. It is apparent; people do not want to get sales calls at their home or business. Signing up on the website the minute it was launched was a priority for me. Yet, in the last two weeks I have received calls from local businesses. I have to say now I am even more frustrated with them. They didnt follow the guidelines of the new law and they bothered me. NAME COLD CALLS While I am at it, does anyone know who came up with the truly dumb name cold calls? First of all, I am a person who hates to be cold. Then someone labeled a phone connection as a cold call—How Cold!!!! Once when being trained as a sales person, I was told I had to make 100 Cold Calls a day and, of course, track them. At the time, I thought it was an ineffective way to connect with people. Yet, being the new salesperson and wanting to please, I spent my day penned up in a small office trying to connect with people so they would buy sales training. Notice I used the word trying. Either I was a total loser, or the system truly was inefficient. I remember only one significant customer I got through that process and I had spent hours and hours on the phone. Of course, if you want to learn how to handle being told No and how to handle it with real grace that is the perfect way to do it. Many organizations continue to start their sales people out on the phones and give them the same assignment 100 calls a day. My belief is they are missing really connecting with people. SELLING THE MINUTE YOU MEET SOMEONE This is easy to illustrate through something that happened to me. I went to a networking event at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. A woman came up to me, shook my hand and introduced herself and said What do you take for your health? Thats right, it was 7:00 a.m., I hadnt had my coffee yet and a total stranger is asking me What do you take for your health? I was so shocked I didnt even have reply. This happened three years ago and I remember it as clearly as it happened this morning. There is no way I am going to start talking about my personal diet etc. with someone I had just met two seconds ago. Yet, for some reason people feel they have to go out and sell their product. People buy things from people they know and like! EFFECT WAY TO DEVELOP CLIENTSONE ON ONE MEETINGSWhile it may appear to be the slow way, it is the most effective. Remember the Hare and the Tortoise—Who came out the winner? I am interested in learning new things and understand that people are interesting and have much to teach me if I take the time to listen. I am urging those of you in business to take a new approach to your marketing efforts. Yes, I know the days are frantic with work and issues to solve. Yet, taking a time out to have coffee with a person you met at event can reap huge rewards. 1. Its Relaxing Stopping to have a cup of coffee with someone at the local coffee shop changes the pace in your day. Trust me, youll come back to the office with a new outlook. 2. You Learn. Didnt quite understand what Louise does at the XYZ Company? Bet you will when you are through with the meeting. Plus, you will know more about Louise and Louise will understand more clearly what you do. 3. You have a New Contact. Maybe you cant use Louises services, yet you will be amazed how quickly someone crosses your path that could use her services. You refer her to your friend: your friend wins, Louise wins and you do because you are known for sharing great information. 4. Louise liked you She sends you a Referral. It may not be immediate, maybe even a year, yet it will happen when you least expect it. PEOPLE DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLE THEY LIKE AND KNOW! Personal connections are even more important as we continue to rely more and more on technology. Pick up that contact card on your desk that was given to you by a person you met at a recent event and give them a call. Listen how pleased the person is at the other side of the phone. You will be delighted with what you hear and subsequently learn. PS. The Do Not Call List website is www.DONOTCALL.GOV. Child Safety in Crossing Streets

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Milos Pesic Stop, look, and listen. This song and the numerous other street safety songs are not just created to teach babies their first actions songs. These are basically taught to introduce to children the basic concepts of child safety in crossing streets. Of course, these songs will not be effective at all if parents don’t teach their children how to apply the songs in real life. Children may have an idea that roads can be dangerous. But they dont have a clear understanding on just how extent the dangers can be, unless they actually see someone being run over by a car. It is a good start to let them learn the street songs and supervise their street crossing practices in the neighborhood. This way, they are putting the songs into action and will remember the important tips on child safety in crossing streets. Educate children on what the traffic lights mean. Teach them about the dos and donts that pedestrians must adhere to. It is a good idea to tell the children to ask an adult to help them cross the streets or wait for an adult who will be willing to cross the streets with them. Child safety in crossing streets is a bit difficult. Even if you have gone over the different traffic signs, road signs, and car warnings (horns, lights, and sirens) with your child, there are always accidents that are very unpredictable just waiting to happen. This means that your child may be practicing child safety in crossing streets, but then a drunk driver had to come by and mess up everything that you have ever made your child learn. Your child may have been practicing child safety in crossing streets with you more than a dozen times but he does not have the means to accurately tell the speed or distance of oncoming car. That is why children below 11 years old should cross the streets with an adult. Most importantly, kids should never be allowed to cross the streets or play near one when its dark. Children who are taking the bus should be taught not to immediately cross the street right after getting down. Child safety in crossing streets should not exempt those that are riding the bicycles or skates. These children are more prone to figure in road accidents as they are concentrating more on their bikes and skates rather then the oncoming traffic. They should wear their helmets and should stay along bike routes to avoid accidents. There is just one great rule that basically works well for everybody - adults included. Sometimes, accidents happen because people cross streets even if they are not sure its safe. So a general rule to follow should be when in doubt, dont. How to Choose a Waste Management Company

By Natalie Aranda Whether you are an individual or a business, you will need to choose a waste management company. Waste management companies are responsible for picking up your garbage and transporting it to an appropriate landfill. Many waste management companies offer environmental services as well such as recycling. The first step is to locate the providers of waste management in your area. This is easily accomplished by looking in a phone book. You should call each service and ask them some key questions. First, find out how often they come to collect your trash. A service that comes twice a week might cost more, but can prove to be helpful if you have a larger household. If you need special equipment such as a dumpster, you will want to ask about that too. Find out how many trash bags you are allowed to put out per pickup. Many companies have limits on what you are allowed to throw away. If you know you will go over the limit, you will probably want to go with a company who provides more flexibility in the amount of trash you are allowed to put outside. Some companies will charge you for the additional bags and you don’t want to be stuck with a surprise bill. Also, find out how often you are billed and how. Some companies will want you to only pay their drivers. This can be quite inconvenient. You will not be happy when you have to go outside in the snow at 5 AM to drop off your check. Check to see if the company offers recycling service along with the trash pickup. Although these are the basics, you might want to ask some additional questions. Waste management companies often care about the environment. They try to reduce waste and help keep our country as clean as possible. If this is also important to you, you should question what type of environmental services the company uses. For instance, many waste management trucks will run off of clean natural gas instead of diesel fuel. Some waste management companies are taking the methane gas that is naturally produced by landfills and collecting and processing it in order to produce energy. This energy can be used to replace millions of barrels of oil a year. Landfill gas could possibly be a very viable way of producing clean energy through environmental services provided by waste management companies. Some people just select their waste management company based on price or how often they will pick up your trash. However, it is a good idea to take some time and look into what your waste management company is doing to protect the environment. If you are going to pay for trash removal anyway, why not give your money to company who is helping provide us with a cleaner, healthier environment? Natalie Aranda writes on home and family.
